If you are considering trying golf as a sport, or you are already a golfer, here are a few bits of information on our very friendly Ladies’ Section which you might find useful in your search for a golf club (we think ours is excellent!!).

Our ladies and girls membership covers all ages and levels of ability. We offer an Introduction to golf package if you are right at the beginning of your golf journey, a supported Academy scheme, and full membership. As a junior girl you can join the established junior coaching run by our Head PGA Professional, Ben Hill. If you are an established golfer, Willesley is very proud to be active at county level, with successful scratch and handicap teams. We also support the County Girls teaching programme.

We actively encourage ladies and girls to obtain a handicap and to join in with our playing members, but also to be part of the very active and varied social diary. Willesley has a Ladies’ committee who work hard to ensure we have a fantastic golfing and social diary. They also ensure our interests are represented in the club and we are compliant with England Golf and the R&A Golfing directives.

Ladies’ competition days are on Tuesdays, although competitions are also held on a Sunday. We have an increasing number of working ladies and we are actively considering how we can improve their experience, whilst also recognising that women with parental responsibilities or girls in term time education may also have limited ability to regularly get involved with the Ladies’ Tuesday diary. There is also an informal ladies roll up and play on Thursday mornings. We are in the process of putting together a buddy system for new members, however, it is our experience that there is always someone in the Ladies’ section to play a round of golf with. An active WhatsApp group makes this easier.

The club also has weekly qualifying competitions on a Monday and Wednesday for all members. In addition to our handicap qualifying competitions and Ladies’ Cups, we enjoy a wide variety of relaxed formats including team, knockouts, mixed and social golf. There are also drawn competitions to bring the different handicap divisions together.

We have a programme in order to support the development of beginner female golfers. It can often be quite daunting taking up golf or joining a golf club for the very first time. When you first start to learn golf, completing 18 holes can seem an impossible task. We have all been there, but know that with the help and support we offer, the journey is absolutely possible and achievable.

To that end, we have a Golf Academy, managed by our Golf Professional. You will take part in a structured developmental programme that will measure your progress and prepare you with the necessary knowledge and skills to take onto the golf course. If you migrate to the Academy from an introduction to golf group, our experience has shown that the group stays together and provides peer support to share your successes and challenges, and in the process you make firm golfing friends.

Not all our golf is serious! During the year we hold fun competitions, away days, invitation days, open competitions and friendly team matches against other clubs in the area. The friendly matches are popular and well supported.

Any other information you may need please contact our Pro Shop who will be more than happy to answer any questions that you may have.
